October is recognized as Fire Prevention Month and with all of the current buzz around recent fire code changes in some states we have a lot to talk about! With new construction down in many areas, the strict Class A codes being driven are likely to increase the cost of building adding more stress to the already high interest rates, elevated costs, unknown tariffs, supply chain shifts, and softness in many if not most markets, especially where affordability is already strained. There is an oversupply of existing homes, rising vacancy rates, and financing constraints to also take into consideration. Fire Prevention Month can serve as a good "checkpoint" to proactively audit fire-safety measures, before regulatory push back happens. Let's educate our communities on fire hazards and safety measures to protect homes, businesses, and lives.
